Realizing Potential: Innovation Beyond the Cliché

Typically, truly innovative applications of technology lag substantively behind the development of that technology itself.  So it was that in the early days of television, presenters simply filmed themselves reading content as if they were on radio.  More recently, educational video products have all too often been centered around merely reproducing classroom lectures or simulating TV programs.   Happily, these early days of unimaginative educational videos are now too coming to an end; and a huge explosion of pedagogically-sophisticated educational possibilities awaits.

In this interactive, open session, Open Agenda Publishing’s CEO Howard Burton (Founding Executive Director of Perimeter Institute, Canada’s innovative theoretical physics research center) explains what led him to create his new combined video and e-print product, Ideas Roadshow.  Christine Fischer, from UNC Greensboro, will be contributing the library’s point of view, and they both will be speculating with the audience on a whole host of additional possibilities that could vitally contribute towards the goal of harnessing the power and potential of today’s technology to dramatically improve the educational experience.
